Dr. Steve VeGodsky founded Chiropractic Family Wellness Center in Charlottesville, Virginia. He graduated with honors in 1986 from Life Chiropractic College in Marietta, Georgia. In addition to the standard 4-year course load, he completed extensive extracurricular seminars and post-graduate studies in acupuncture, nutrition, myofascial therapy, exercise rehab, diversified/extremity adjusting, lumbar distraction/decompression and physical therapy modalities. Dr. Steve is well versed in both traditional chiropractic adjusting techniques as well as in gentle, lighter touch methods to help you based on your needs.
Dr. Steve’s philosophy as a practitioner is that he is in partnership with you to help you with your health concerns. No practitioner can do for you what you fail to do for yourself. Therefore, in addition to his treatment of your condition, you are also encouraged to have an active role towards getting and staying well.
Exercise programs, dietary recommendations, training in posture, lifting, ergonomics, and stress reduction are some of the tools which are offered to help empower you in your own healing process. He will work with you to help you design a treatment program which best suits your individual needs.
He believes that the body functions as an integrated whole and that total health is dependent on structural/functional, emotional, and nutritional well-being. His main focus is on restoring and maintaining your physical structure and functional health. He also has extensive training in nutrition and stress reduction. Together with his massage therapist, he offers tools to assist in healing in all three levels: structural, emotional, and nutritional.
Dr. Steve decided to become a chiropractor shortly after receiving his B.A in education at the University of Arizona in 1976. His mother was in an automobile collision which resulted in considerable neck, low back, and leg pain. After being treated for over a year by medical doctors and physical therapists and receiving only minimal benefit, she decided to give chiropractic a try.
After about 6 months, his mother improved remarkably. Inspired by the results, he decided to give chiropractic a try for some chronic neck pain and headaches related to an old sports injury. Equally inspired by his own results, Dr. Steve knew that his path was to help others heal from similar problems and to become a chiropractor himself.
Dr. Steve enjoys giving back to the community. He started a program to offer chiropractic services through the Charlottesville Free Clinic in 2002. Additionally, he volunteers in children's schools and coached and sponsored numerous youth soccer teams. Dr. VeGodsky taught the chiropractic portion of the "Healing Options" medical school class at the University of Virginia for 18 years. Dr. Steve speaks to many local professional groups and high school students about the healing benefits of chiropractic care, job opportunities in the field of chiropractic, and other natural health-related issues.
In his free time, Dr. Steve enjoys spending time with his wife Maureen and his wonderful children, playing sports, gardening and music.
